This session was a DREAM. A slightly chaotic dream at times LOL, but a dream, nonetheless. When Jodi reached out to me about her vision for this session, I was ecstatic. She told me that she had bought her three boys – Lyncoln, Lyric, and Porter – linen overalls and wanted to have photos of the boys in a country and fishing setting. Jodi said her boys were “all boy” and she really wanted to capture that at the age they are now. I instantly fell in love with idea 🙂 so the next step was figuring out where the do the session.
We decided to do the session at two locations – we started the session at my parents’ house to get some photos of the boys at a farm, then we headed about a mile down the road to a pond for the fishing photos. But this pond was not just any pond – it was a pond where Jodi had so many childhood memories and where she and Zach got married 🙂
If anyone wants to know what it is like to get three boys under the age of four to all smile and look at the camera at the same time, the first photo below sums it up. But these boys had a lot of energy and curiosity for all things farm that had me laughing throughout the entire session! The first thing Lyric said when they got to my parents’ house was “Is this a real farm?!” – and then all three of the boys proceeded to make a beeline for the shed full of tractors 🙂 After we were able to get the boys out of the shed, we made our way around different parts of the farm – I even had my dad bring a grain truck over for the boys to sit in (thanks, Dad!). The grain truck ended up working to my advantage in two ways – not only did I get some cute photos of the boys “driving” the truck, it was also a great way to bribe them into sitting and smiling for me when I took the photos of the whole family 🙂
When we got to the pond, Zach and Jodi changed the boys into their linen overalls, and OH MY GOODNESS, it was the cutest thing I have ever seen! Zach made three fishing poles out of branches and string, and I had so much fun photographing the boys “fishing.” Being able to capture true emotions and candid moments is what I love most about photographing young children, and these boys made that so easy to do 🙂
